Prince George’s Sierra Club Elects Historic New Leadership
Nicole Jackson Becomes Group’s First Black Chair,
Leading a Majority-Person of Color Executive Committee
Washington, D.C. - The Prince George’s Sierra Club Group (PGSC) announced its elected leadership for 2026, marking two historic milestones. Nicole Jackson, Strategic Advisor at Monarch PSG (and Director of Education at CEEJH INC), has been elected Chair, becoming the group’s first Black chair in its history. Furthermore, for the first time since the group’s inception, the voting Executive Committee is composed of a majority of people of color.
Jackson, who recently served as the group’s Climate Action Committee Chair, brings a wealth of experience in environmental advocacy and community engagement. Her roles include serving as an advisory board member for the Sustainable Energy Workforce Development Program at Prince George’s Community College, co-chair of the Prince George’s County Resident Advisory Group for Climate Action, and chair of the AME WMS 2nd District Environmental Justice Committee.
Outgoing Chair Lily Fountain expressed strong support for the transition. “I am excited to watch the direction that Nicole will take the group,” said Fountain. “Her deep roots in both climate policy and community justice work are exactly what we need to move forward.”
Janet Gingold, Chair Emerita, echoed this sentiment. “After serving as chair and then vice chair for several years, I am confident that under Nicole's leadership, the group will make strides in pursuing a more equitable agenda while advocating for the full implementation of the county's climate action plan,” stated Gingold.
The newly elected Executive Committee and officer team reflect PGSC’s commitment to representing the diverse community of Prince George’s County and advancing an inclusive environmental agenda focused on climate action, zero waste, biodiversity, transportation, and environmental justice.
“I am honored to lead this dedicated team of volunteers,” said incoming Chair Nicole Jackson. “Together, we will work tirelessly to protect our environment and ensure that our advocacy creates a healthier, more equitable future for every resident of Prince George’s County.”
February 2026 marks Black Climate Week’s 6th year, as well as a century of national commemorations of Black history. Monarch PSG is proud to celebrate Nicole Jackson this Black Climate Week and Black History Month.
