Sustainability and Environmental Justice Leader Honored for
Bridging Technical Expertise with Community-Centered Climate Action
WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 27, 2025 – Nicole Jackson, Principal Consultant at Monarch PSG and Director of Education and Program Development at the Center for Community Engagement, Environmental Justice, and Health (CEEJH), was honored as a "Green Leader on the Move" by the Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition (GWRCCC) at its annual awards ceremony on Thursday, October 23rd. The award honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership in advancing sustainable solutions that bridge environmental progress with community equity across the DMV region.

The "Green Leaders on the Move" award, presented by GWRCCC—a U.S. Department of Energy-designated public-private partnership promoting clean transportation fuels, improved air quality, and environmental justice—recognizes those who combine technical sustainability expertise with deep community commitment. Honorees are architects of both green infrastructure and equitable access, actively building the partnerships, policies, and programs that move the region toward a cleaner, healthier, and more just future for all communities.
Nicole Jackson's career embodies this mission. A U.S. Army Veteran and pioneering Sustainability Management Professional, she has held leadership roles at the World Wildlife Fund and the U.S. Green Building Council, where she managed multi-million-dollar LEED Platinum-certified spaces and shaped network-wide sustainable procurement policies. Her technical expertise spans green building operations, carbon emission reporting, sustainable sourcing, and policy development.
Yet her impact extends far beyond the corporate sphere as a true community architect for climate justice, building bridges from the classroom to the pulpit to policy rooms. Jackson is the creator of Climate Chronicles Unleashed, a global storytelling initiative advancing UN SDG 16 that united participants from more than 11 countries. She has partnered with ecoAmerica and Prince George's County Public Schools to bring climate science and climate justice education to over 300 educators across the county.
Her leadership is woven throughout Maryland's environmental fabric. Jackson serves as Co-Chair of the Prince George's County Resident Advisory Group for Climate Action, where she helps ensure an equity lens is applied to the county's Climate Action Plan implementation. She chairs the Prince George's Sierra Club's Climate Action Committee, advancing zero-waste initiatives and community advocacy. She is an Advisory Board Member for the Sustainable Energy Workforce Development Program at Prince George's Community College, shaping workforce strategies for emerging environmental justice professionals. She also provides creation care guidance as Chair of the Women's Missionary Society Environmental and Climate Justice Committee for the 2nd District of the AME Church, under Selerya Moore, guiding initiatives across more than 400 congregations in four states.
Previously, as a dedicated advisor to the NAACP Maryland State Conference on Environmental and Climate Justice, Jackson organized a legislative summit during the 2023 Maryland Legislative session to inspire and inform the next generation of climate policy leaders from Maryland's HBCUs. She also chairs the Sustainability Committee for the City of District Heights, guiding the municipality toward Sustainable Maryland certification through community gardens, tree plantings, and environmental justice conversations.
"Nicole possesses exceptional skills and knowledge in the sustainability field," said Staci Hartwell, Strategic Advisor for South County Environmental Justice Coalition (SCEJC) and Chair Emerita of the NAACP Maryland State Conference Environmental and Climate Justice Committee. "She is a great collaborator and has a strong ability to bring people together to work toward a common goal. Her dedication and passion for sustainability and climate justice are truly inspiring."
As a 2024 Senior Climate Justice Fellow with CEEJH at the University of Maryland School of Public Health and a certified Racial Justice Facilitator, Jackson blends disciplined project management with an unwavering commitment to equity. Her work consistently translates policy into community action—the hallmark of a leader truly "on the move."
"I am honored to receive this recognition from the Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition," said Jackson. "This award reflects the power of collaboration—from the educators bringing climate science into classrooms to the community members showing up for tree plantings and policy meetings. Together, we are building a region where environmental progress and community equity go hand in hand."
